Princess Anne Praises Bravery and Dedication of Canadian Military Unit

Royal Regina Rifles Honored by Colonel-in-Chief

Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, has paid tribute to the bravery and dedication of the Royal Regina Rifles, a Canadian military unit, in her role as Colonel-in-Chief.

In a ceremony held at Rideau Hall in Ottawa, Princess Anne presented the unit with a new guidon, the ceremonial flag that represents the regiment. She also inspected the troops and met with members of the unit's families.

"The Royal Regina Rifles have a long and distinguished history of service to Canada," Princess Anne said. "You have served with honor in every major conflict in our nation's history, and you continue to play a vital role in our defense today."

The Royal Regina Rifles were first raised in 1883 and have served in the Boer War, the First World War, the Second World War, and the Korean War. The unit is currently based in Regina, Saskatchewan, and is part of the 3rd Canadian Division.

Princess Anne's visit to Canada is part of a series of engagements she is undertaking in her role as Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Regina Rifles. She will also visit other units across the country, including the Royal Canadian Regiment, the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, and the Royal Westminster Regiment.
